Folic acid is a water soluble B vitamin and member of the B complex. It's essential for pregnant women and helps promote heart health. This supplement helps maintain healthy levels of homocysteine already within a normal range by converting homocysteine into methionine. It also plays a significant role in the health of red blood cells and supports a healthy nervous system.
Adequate folate levels may reduce a woman's risk of having a child with a brain or spinal cord defect. Total folic acid intake should not exceed 1000 mcg (1,677 mcg DFE) per day.
